Empowering Local Communities: CMC’s Skills Development Initiative

In its ongoing commitment to empower the local community, Cagdianao Mining Corporation (CMC organized a hands-on training program focused on fish processing and value-added products.

Held on January 25-26, 2024, the initiative aimed to enhance the skills of 18 members of the Bal-iwan Fish Processor Association, contributing to economic empowerment and sustainable development within the region.

Led by personnel from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 13, including Mr. Paterno B. Silla Jr., Roberto Son Durcon, and John Arman P. Tenio, alongside Ms. Frecel Salas from the Municipal Agriculture Office of Cagdianao, the training provided participants with practical knowledge and techniques to diversify their product offerings and maximize the value of locally sourced fish.

Over two days, attendees were immersed in a comprehensive curriculum covering various aspects of fish processing and value-added product development.

From fish polvoron to tilapia chicharon, participants learned to create a wide range of innovative and marketable products, each designed to appeal to local consumers and capitalize on the region's abundant seafood resources.

The training not only equipped participants with valuable skills but also fostered collaboration and knowledge-sharing among members of the Bal-iwan Fish Processor Association.

By harnessing the collective expertise of industry professionals and local stakeholders, CMC created a supportive learning environment where participants could explore new ideas, refine their techniques, and ultimately expand their businesses.
