Cagdianao Mining Corporation (CMC), is located in the municipality of Cagdianao on the northeastern side of the Dinagat Islands. The mine operates within the Surigao Mineral Reservation and primarily exports saprolite and limonite ore.
Cagdianao encompasses 14 barangays within its 249.48 square kilometers, including CMC’s host and neighboring barangays—Valencia, Boa, Legaspi, and Bayanihan. The island, designated as a Mineral Reservation site since 1939, is rich in mineral resources. It is also recognized as a Key Biodiversity Area, boasting diverse flora and fauna, especially in the regions of Mt. Redondo and Mt. Cambiliw.
CMC plays a vital role in environmental stewardship by adopting several significant conservation areas. The Maraguing Watershed, a crucial source of domestic water supply for the mine site, and the Valencia Marine Protected Area are among the areas CMC actively protects.
In addition to its environmental efforts, CMC is committed to the development and well-being of its host communities. The company has implemented various programs aimed at improving health, education, and infrastructure. These efforts underscore CMC's dedication to sustainable development and responsible mining practices.
CMC’s impact extends beyond mining operations, fostering strong community relations and promoting sustainable livelihoods. The company supports local economic activities such as agriculture and fishing, ensuring that the benefits of mining are shared with the broader community. Through its comprehensive approach to community engagement and environmental protection, CMC strives to contribute positively to the Dinagat Islands' social and ecological landscape.
