Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC), is located in Barangay Rio Tuba, within the municipality of Bataraza, situated at the southern tip of Palawan province. RTNMC exports saprolite and limonite ore and supplies limonite ore and various non-mining services to the adjacent Coral Bay HPAL plant operated by Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC). Additionally, RTNMC holds a Mineral Production Sharing Agreement (MPSA) to quarry limestone, which is also utilized by CBNC.
In addition to its mining operations, RTNMC is deeply integrated into its host communities. Barangays Rio Tuba and Iwahig are among the 22 barangays that constitute Bataraza. Palawan, the largest province in the Philippines, has a population exceeding 771,000, with Bataraza alone housing over 85,439 residents.
Recognizing its impact on the local population, RTNMC acknowledges the presence of 48 Indigenous Cultural Communities in the vicinity of the mine site. This includes 11 communities in the impact barangays, another 11 in non-impact barangays within Bataraza, and one adopted barangay in the Municipality of Rizal.
Demonstrating its commitment to sustainable development and community engagement, RTNMC has launched various initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for local communities. These initiatives encompass health and education programs, infrastructure development, and environmental conservation projects. RTNMC's dedication to social responsibility and environmental stewardship is reflected in its continuous efforts to create a positive impact on the communities and the natural surroundings of Palawan.
