NAC shares ESG journey in 31st MinBizCon

CLAVER, Surigao del Norte—Joining the movement to bigger, better, and bolder Mindanao, Nickel Asia Corp. (NAC) Operating Companies--Taganito Mining, Hinatuan Mining, and Cagdianao Mining (CMC) participated as event partners of the 31st Mindanao Business Conference held in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur.

The conference, held from August 31 to September 2, 2022, was a gathering of businessmen, industry representatives, government officials and private partners with the aim of advancing Mindanao’s economy and speed up the recovery process from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The conference was anchored on three thematic panels: the impetus to scale up economic production in Bigger Mindanao, the need to improve business conditions and production factors through Better Mindanao, and the critical importance of a bold and visionary leadership that can pole-vault a Bolder Mindanao through the new normal.

Jose Bayani Baylon, NAC Chief Sustainability Officer and Senior VP for Sustainability, Public Affairs and Communications, was given the opportunity to deliver a presentation on "ESG: NAC's Exciting Journey to Sustainability.”

ESG stands for Environmental, Social and Governance, a set of standards for assessing companies' impact on their communities.

In his presentation, Baylon shared NAC’s various initiatives to be a steward of the environment within its operations, to contribute to development within its communities, and to promote good governance.

"The Philippines can be host to some of the best operations, even in mining, in the world. The world is changing and even the mining industry has to change with it. But one thing has not changed, it is that Mindanao is the land of promise. We, at Nickel Asia, are ready to help make the land of promise a reality," Baylon said.

As part of the three-day event, the NAC exhibit booth showcased various products of TMC's people's organizations, which include root crops delicacies, fish polvoron, tailored items, well-milled rice, purified water, rattan baskets, carbonized rice hull, and goat urine and manure.

Representatives of TMC's people's organizations also attended to benchmark on other Mindanao-made products.
