Excitement and pride filled the air in the quaint barangay of Lahi, Gigaquit, Surigao del Norte, as the Lahi Fisherfolks Association (LAFA) celebrated their inaugural harvest.

On this memorable day, the 45-member strong association successfully harvested over 97 kilos of African Hito, marking a significant milestone in their community's journey toward sustainable livelihood and food security.

This momentous occasion comes less than a year after the project’s inception in December 2023, showcasing the dedication and hard work of the LAFA members.

Their success is not just a testament to their efforts but also to the collaborative spirit that drives community development in the region.

The project has been nurtured and supported by Taganito Mining Corporation (TMC) through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.

TMC's CSR initiatives are deeply rooted in their commitment to enhancing the social welfare of the communities they serve.

By aligning their resources and expertise with the needs of the local populace, TMC has played a crucial role in empowering the Lahi fisherfolks, providing them with the tools and knowledge necessary to thrive.

The first harvest of African Hito, a species of catfish known for its resilience and fast growth, is more than just a yield of fish.

The success of this venture demonstrates the positive impact that corporate-community partnerships can have, paving the way for future initiatives that foster self-sufficiency and environmental stewardship.

As LAFA members gathered to celebrate their hard-earned harvest, their faces shone with pride and optimism.
