CMC, an affiliate of Nickel Asia Corporation (NAC) held its sixth year medical and dental mission for the host and neighboring communities on May 30-31, 2018.

VALENCIA, Cagdianao, Dinagat Islands—Cagdianao Mining Corporation (CMC), an affiliate of Nickel Asia Corporation (NAC) held its sixth year medical and dental mission for the host and neighboring communities on May 30-31, 2018.

A total of 304 patients availed of different health and medical procedures that included minor surgery, “operation tuli” (circumcision) and dental services.

Funded from its Social Development and Management Program (SDMP), CMC regularly holds its two-day medical and dental mission every other year since the start of its operation in 2000.

Of the 304 patients served, 182 patients availed of dental extractions, 110 for circumcision, and 12 for minor surgeries—the most cases being sebaceous cyst.

The medical and dental team composed of Dr. Vhelron Galvadores—the mission’s dentist—who was credited as having the most number of patients served, as well as Dr. Antonio Ybiernas, a surgeon, and Dr. Ma. Teresa Borlasa, a general physician from Municipal Health Office of Cagdianao.

”The mission is simple, the need is great. For me, it has become increasingly clear how important medicines to mission are. The medical, surgical and dental mission was indeed a success. Exactly 182 patients received free dental care. With the help of my team indeed every patient served was worth the sweat. As the famous saying goes - Alone we can do so little together we can do so much,” said Dr. Vhelron Galvadores, CMC dentist.

The staff nurses included Ivy Jane Jamahani, Gendie Cuares, Louiella Centino and Emelou Linaga, and the midwives were Marivic Edera, Fe Jumamoy, and Jennifer Pranellas, who executed the circumcision.

Barangay health workers from the four host and neighboring barangays also came to lend a helping hand.

“It is important to provide health services to the community, and CMC is committed to provide that to its stakeholders,” said Dr. Romulo Ybiernas, NAC-CMC physician.

After the surgeries, patients received medicines and were provided free post operation consultation at the camp site clinic.

“This is how we treat our community—our arms are always open to serve their medical needs,” Dr. Ybiernas added.

Aside from every other two-year mission, the company regularly conducts quarterly medical check-ups and dental services for its community stakeholders.

“CMC provides medicines and facilities to the health centers for the host and neighboring communities, and this greatly ease the burden of costly medical services elsewhere,” noted Dr. Borlasa, the municipal health officer.

Borlasa also expressed gratitude to the company for the financial support it has extended over the years to the town’s health center and to village clinics. In particular, she lauded CMC for the trainings it has sponsored to raise the quality of health services of barangay health workers, midwives and other local health personnel in Cagdianao.
