DCS pupils get lessons on proper oral health, hygiene

Dinapigue Mining Corporation (DMC), a subsidiary of natural resources development firm Nickel Asia Corporation (NAC), conducted a lecture for the pupils of Dinapigue Central School (DCS) last April about the importance of oral health and hygiene among children.

The lecture on Oral Health Care and the Pre-screening for Pits and Fissure Sealants Application was attended by 81 Kindergarten and Grade 1 students of DCS.

Dr. Melvin J. Dionisio, DMC site dentist, spearheaded the lecture and demonstrated the importance of proper oral hygiene and oral health to young pupils.

“I think it is necessary to learn the importance of oral health even at a young age to avoid complications with one’s teeth and gums later in life, that is why at an early age, it is important to develop good oral hygiene habits,” he said.

Dionisio instructed the kids on proper tooth-brushing techniques and educated them on the types of food that cause dental caries or the loss of tooth caused by acid production.

During the lecture, Dionisio also distributed free toothbrushes to kids who actively participated in the recitation.

After the lecture, Dionisio pre-screened the pupils to check for potential candidates for pits and fissure sealant application for the upcoming medical and dental missions.
