Dinapigue youth joins DMC in celebrating Earth Day

The youth of Dinapigue have joined Dinapigue Mining Corporation (DMC) in celebrating Earth Day by participating in the activities prepared by the mining company.

The DMC, a subsidiary of Nickel Asia Corporation (NAC), staged a collage making contest held at the Bucal Sur Elemetary School on April 22 and was participated by the youth of Dinapigue.

During the event, DMC Environment Supervisor Lovely Rose Ortiz oriented the participating youth on the history of Earth Day.

“Earth Day is an annual event held every April 22, to promote support for the protection of the environment and to raise awareness on environmental issues. The first Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970 and has since then been celebrated in over 193 countries. The official theme for Earth Day 2022 is Invest in Our Planet,” said Ortiz.

They also participated in an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) seminar delivered by Envi Staff Angel Reynon, who shared waste management practices that the company has been advocating.

“We always teach our youth on the proper management practices because they can apply these in their day-to-day lives and so that they could share with their respective communities,” said Reynon.

The highlight of the event was the Collage Making Contest where 26 participating students from grades four, five, and six from the different elementary schools in Dinapigue delivered their best creative outputs to create collages made from recycled materials provided by the company.

Gino Binavince and Kathven Serra won first place, followed by Xaidan Madinno and Jared Agustin in second place, with Theafaye Rivera and Queenzyl Allaga in third place.

The event culminated in a tree planting activity where participants planted 50 rambutan seedlings donated by the company.
