Hinatuan Mining Corp. (HMC) held a company-wide tree planting activity in observance of the International Day of Forests.
In 2012, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed March 21 as the “International Day of Forests” (IDF).
The Mine Environmental Protection and Enhancement Department (MEPED) of HMC spearheaded the tree planting activity to commemorate and raise awareness on the significance of all types of forests.
With this year’s IDF theme, "Forest Restoration: a path to recovery and well-being,” the company realized the importance and major role of the forests such as providing food, water, medicines, shelter to animals as well as human beings in many ways.
Led by Forester Manuel A. Torres, Jr., HMC Environment Manager, and his team, the company was able to plant a total of 2,000 seedlings of various forest tree species and covered an area of one hectare.
Moreover, to make the IDF 2021 celebration more fun and evocative, the company handed out exciting prizes and freebies to all participants during the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) program and tree planting activity.
