HMC welcomes 12 new college scholars

Twelve new students were added to the roster of college scholars of Hinatuan Mining Corp. (HMC for the School Year 2022-2023.

HMC Community Development Coordinator Myline G. Becera said, the annual college scholarship program is part of the commitment of the company to assist its host communities in their aspiration for a sustained growth.

“HMC knows the value of education not only for the scholars and their families, but also the impact it has to the community once they have completed their studies,” said Becera.

Of the 12 new college scholars, 10 will be funded by the Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) of HMC and the two others by its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.

Each scholar will receive ₱6,000 monthly for living allowance, ₱1,250 monthly for board and lodging and ₱ 2,000 per semester for book allowance.

One of the new scholars—Kenedy L. Parejo from Barangay Himamaug in Tagana-an, has expressed gratitude for the financial support he will be receiving from the mining firm.

“I want to say thank you to HMC for giving us the opportunity, it is such an honor to be accepted as one of your scholars. God uses instruments like you in helping other people. I am very grateful that HMC came into our lives. Once again, thank you,” said Parejo.

Her mother, Mrs. Liezel J. Parejo, shared the same sentiments saying, “Thank you God for this opportunity, thank you HMC. It will be hard for me to provide for the education of my child. This scholarship program is very helpful and provides opportunity to students who are willing and eager to get into college. ”

Aside from being happy and appreciative for passing the scholarship exam and interview of HMC, Renel R. Orejas, one the new college scholars and a resident of Bagong Silang, also reminded his fellow scholars of their responsibilities,

“I am thankful that I was able to pass the HMC scholarship exam and interview. I also remember the things discussed earlier by HMC ComRel Manager Antonio B. Resuera Jr, and the most notable thing he said is that as scholars you need to maintain your grades in order to keep your scholarship.”

Erlinda P. Trazo, one of the scholar’s parent from Barangay Canlanipa in Surigao City also expressed her appreciation to HMC.

“I am very grateful to HMC. My son, Ariel, is the second to avail of your college scholarship. My daughter is also a CSR scholar at HMC. I am very thankful for this program by HMC. It is a big help for my family,” she said.

Via Mae D. Eleguir, a new college scholar from Barangay Talavera, is also happy and recognizes the opportunity given to her is special.

“We know that mining is not forever, I am happy that I am now a HMC college scholar. Thank you very much. This will greatly benefit me and my family,” she said.

HMC is a subsidiary of Nickel Asia Corp. (NAC).
