Besting other mining companies in Caraga region, Taganito Mining Corporation (TMC) grabbed first place in the 2016 Environment Month Photo Competition organized by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB)-Caraga last June 30.
The photo, which was taken by TMC Information, Education and Communication officer Nissi Aline S. Alvarez, featured one of the company’s post-mine innovations—its goat farm, which stands on a previously-mined area.
Hence, a flock of goats now replace the troop of backhoes and dump trucks that once ruled the area.
The fact that such beings thrive in the area, other rehabilitations could be possibly done in the area.
This innovation is just one of the many initiatives of the company to protect and improve the environment.
TMC also has an orchidarium, fish sanctuary, gulayan and palayan sa minahan, parks and nurseries which house various plant species from native to indigenous plant species.
It is worth noting that TMC also won the 2015 Best Mining Forest Program awarded by the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA) last November 2015.
In support to the government’s Mining Forest Program and National Greening Program, TMC was able to plant a total of 1.36 million trees on a total land area of 991.68 hectares as of 2015.
All these measures and initiatives that the company implements are in fulfilment of its commitment to responsible mining and to prove that indeed there is life after mining.
