To celebrate this year's Hearts Day, Hinatuan Mining Corporation-Tagana-an Nickel Project (HMC-TNP) spearheaded a one of a kind activity for the environment.
Thru its Mine Environmental Protection and Enhancement Department, HMC, an affiliate of Nickel Asia Corporation (NAC), not only planted trees but also encouraged people to hug trees as the highlight of the event.
A total of 700 seedlings of different forest tree species: Mangkono, Bagras, Narra, Agoho, and Bani was planted by 100 participants during the activity.
At the same time, organizers also encouraged people to hug trees believing that this could improve their physical and psychological health.
"Hugging trees can improve our physical and psychological health as it reduces stress, lower down blood pressure, increases feeling of calmness and joy and helps fight anxiety and depression,” explained Forester Jomer D. Tiamson, HMC’s Environment Manager.
Moreover, when you hug a tree, Tiamson added, “you are connecting yourself to the energy of healing property and energy of the universe.”
The said activity was participated by HMC Managers headed by Engr. Francisco J. Arañes Jr., Resident Mine Manager, and the volunteers from different sections and departments.
Arañes said that, "It is the first activity that we have this year. Likewise, a good kick-off for the year as Environment Stewards. Together, let us be in love with nature.”
“Let's do our part! Hug a tree and be in love!” he added.
