Some 86 students in Bataraza received school supplies from the Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC) as part of its community program under the Social Development and Management Program (SDMP).
The initiative is to assist indigent students who are currently enrolled, said community development coordinator Iskandar Sali on Friday.
He said the donation of school supplies hopes to boost their interest to study and have better prospects in the future.
The particular target of the donation are students from Sitio Cabibin, Barangay Culandanum, Bataraza.
“For RTN, kaya tuloy-tuloy talaga ang support nila to the community ay para itaas pa ‘yong level ng interes ng mga kabataan sa pag-aaral nila. Kasi ngayon ang hirap din na wala. Isang factor kung bakit humihinto ‘yong mga kabataan dahil wala silang pambili ng gamit kaya doon pumapasok ang ating SDMP,” he said.
On August 8, the students received the school supplies in 22 barangays where 38 communities are populated with Indigenous Peoples (IPs).
Sali said it is annually implemented by the RTNMC.
The beneficiaries are selected, meanwhile, by the tribal council composed of mostly Palaw’an chieftains in Bataraza.
“Ang ating SDMP ay kahit papaano ay mabibigyan ng kaunting intervention ‘yong mga kabataan para ‘yong eagerness na makapag-aral ay mapataas natin o malinang pa natin,” he said.
Sali said the distribution of school supplies is one of the programs, projects and activities of RTNMC for the education sector which is handled by Vanessa Apilan, community development coordinator in Culandanum.
