The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Caraga Region marked the World Day for Safety and Health at Work with an insightful event at Las Nieves Hall, Almont Inland Resort in Butuan City on April 28.
This year's theme, “Impact of Climate Change on Occupational Safety and Health,” highlighted the pressing need to address the effects of climate change on worker safety and health standards.
The highlight of the event was the awarding of the Safety Milestone (SMILE) Award to various organizations. This award recognizes organizations that have achieved zero Lost Time Accidents, consistently submitted required Occupational Safety and Health reports, and continuously improved their workplace safety and health practices.
Among the distinguished recipients was Cagdianao Mining Corporation (CMC), one of seven companies honored in the Mining Industry category. Twenty establishments from various sectors, including construction, utilities, and manufacturing, received the prestigious SMILE award.
“This is the second time we have received this prestigious citation, and it reaffirms our dedication to protecting our workers, particularly as climate change continues to intensify,” said a representative from the company.
The event served as a platform not only to celebrate achievements but also to foster discussions on the urgent need for proactive measures to safeguard workers in the face of climate change.
With the ongoing challenges posed by shifting environmental conditions, the commitment to enhancing occupational safety and health has never been more critical.
As the Caraga Region moves forward, the focus on sustainable safety practices will be pivotal in creating resilient workplaces that prioritize the health and well-being of all workers, setting a standard for excellence in occupational safety across various industries.
