CBNC RTNMC hold tree planting in Taytay

Fulfilling their mandate to preserve the environment, Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC) and Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC) conducted a tree planting activity in Taytay, Palawan.

Ernesto Llacuna, External Affairs Consultant and Spokesman for CBNC and RTNMC, said the team planted at least 250 Narra propagules in Barangay Pamantolon in Taytay.

Llacuna said the tree-planting activity was in coordination with the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office’s (MENRO) led by acting MENRO officer Cesar Astoriano.

“This kind of activity will definitely help preserve our environment as trees combat climate change and clean the air,” said Llacuna.

Recognizing the importance of trees in preventing air pollution, Llacuna encouraged residents to help in taking care of the newly-planted Narra trees in their community.

RTNMC ComRel Department Manager Reynaldo de la Rosa said the activity was done outside the two mining firms’ impacted community.

“The mining firms are not only concerned with their impacted communities but also to other barangays in Palawan,” he added.

The two companies are not only concerned with the environment but also the education of the residents.

In fact, CBNC and RTNMC distributed umbrellas and school supplies to 12 day care centers in Taytay last August 10.

A total of 431 day care pupils in Barangay Poblacion and Barangay Igang-Igang received colorful umbrellas to shield them from heat and rain.

While day care teachers each received teaching materials.

Ms. Natividad Junio, Municipal Social Worker said that they are grateful to both companies because it is a big help to the children.

“We are very thankful to RTNMC and CBNC for giving umbrellas and school supplies to our pupils because these are a big help to their studies,” said Junio.

During the day care center gift giving stint, the pupils were surprised to see an unusual mascot-- Nicoy, CBNC’s company mascot who brought with him exuberance and excitement.
