The Dinapigue Mining Corporation (DMC) celebrated Philippine Environment Month, World Environment Day, World Oceans Day, and Philippine Arbor Day by conducting a coastal cleanup and tree planting activities from June 24 to 26.
DMC kicked off its series of environmental celebrations with World Oceans Day on June 24 by conducting a coastal cleanup along the Dinapigue Airstrip in Barangay Digumased. DMC employees were joined by the company’s contractors and members of the Philippine National Police in picking up pieces of trash while walking along the coast.
Simultaneously on World Oceans Day, the company conducted an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign where its DMTG and DHNC scholars, members of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), and members of the Municipal Social Welfare & Development (MSWD) Office learned about the company’s solid waste management program and witnessed first-hand how to build a hydroponics system, how to make eco-bricks, and how to measure water and air quality.
This is a good program and we thank DMC for extending this IEC campaign to the municipality. We hope to use what we’ve learned here today to better our solid waste management program).”
To celebrate Philippine Arbor Day on June 25, the company conducted a tree planting event at the causeway area where employees and contractors planted 130 forest trees such as Agoho, Bonsai sp., and bamboo.
To culminate the celebration of Philippine Environment Month, the company partnered with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) through the National Greening Program (NGP) to plant a total of 500 bamboo and fruit-bearing trees at an NGP-graduated area at DMC’s host community, Barangay Dimaluade.
This year’s theme for World Oceans Day is “The Ocean: Life and Livelihood” while the theme for World Environment Day is “Ecosystem Restoration.”
