The Surigao State College of Technology (SSCT) and Hinatuan Mining Corporation are working together to address plastic pollution.
This is the essence of the donation of 10 garbage bins by HMC to SSCT during the opening of the SNSAT-SSCT Inter Batch Alumni Friendship Game last July 27, 2019.
SNSAT-SSCT Alumni Association Incorporated President Roberto Parada represented said the garbage bins are exclusively for plastic bottles only.
He added that, “the plastics collected in these garbage bins will be used for the ecobricks project of our students.”
According to Parada, the project is also in line with the Solid Waste Management Program (SWMP) of the Provincial Government of Surigao del Norte headed by Governor Lalo Matugas.
“The SWMP project is dubbed as Kalimpyo, Kahapsay Surigao. This is in consonance with sincere efforts of the Provincial Government to maintain a clean and safe environment,” he said.
Parada added: “we are launching the drive to distribute trash bins or garbage bins to the select recipients.“
The 10 garbage bins amounting to P50,000 were distributed to the four campuses of SSCT.
The Main Campus received four garbage bins and SSCT Del Carmen, SSCT Mainit and SSCT Malimono Campus received two each.
Parada was grateful to HMC for the project, “from the bottom of my heart, thank you to all our dear partners and proud sponsor for making this dream a fast reality special mention to HMC.”
Representing HMC in the turnover ceremony were Admin Manager and Company Physician Dr. Oliver Dennis O. Lao, HR Manager Marietta P. Ravina, Envi Manager Manuel A. Torres and ComRel Manager Antonio B. Resuera Jr.
Also present were Dr. Ronita Talingting, SSCT Vice President for Administration, Board Member Julecs Suneco of District 1 and Parada.
