In a vibrant display of collaboration and learning, members of the Barangay Local Government Units (BLGUs) from Manicani, along with representatives from the neighboring communities of Buenavista and Banaag, participated in a two-day benchmarking visit to Cagdianao Mining Corporation (CMC) on June 26-27, 2024.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Community Relations Team, aimed to foster understanding and share best practices in responsible mining and sustainable community development.

The visit commenced with a warm welcome from Mayor Marc Adelson D. Longos, who emphasized CMC’s significant contributions to the local economy and the overall development of Cagdianao. During this courtesy call, he highlighted the pivotal role of the mining industry, particularly CMC, in driving the municipality's progress.

As the delegation toured the municipality, they were treated to a preview of the lively preparations for the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul. Adding to the vibrant atmosphere was a meeting with Rev. Fr. Nicolas “Nick” B. Penados, DCS, the local parish priest, who proudly showcased the church’s newly installed Digital Carillon Bell—a project funded by CMC’s Social Development and Management Program (SDMP). This initiative exemplified the company’s commitment to enhancing community welfare through targeted investments.

The second day focused on CMC’s environmental initiatives and rehabilitation programs. The group explored scenic landscapes, visited key environmental protection areas, and gained insights into the company’s sustainable practices. The tour concluded with an in-depth look at various sustainable livelihood projects under the SDMP, designed to empower local communities while preserving ecological balance.

Reflecting on the visit, Herminigeldo Badilla, Chairperson of Buenavista, remarked, “We came here to see the practical execution of responsible mining and learn from CMC’s host and neighboring communities how they utilize the SDMP sustainably and responsibly. We were not disappointed.” His sentiments were echoed by the entire delegation, who departed with a deeper appreciation of sustainable mining practices.

The success of the visit was attributed to the warm hospitality of Cagdianao Mining Corporation, its host and neighboring communities, and the dedicated leadership of Mayor Longos. This engagement not only strengthened ties between the communities and CMC but also laid a solid foundation for continued dialogue and collaboration in advancing sustainable development goals.
