In a visionary step towards sustainability, Nickel Asia Corporation (NAC) has rolled out an innovative electric vehicle (EV) shuttle service in partnership with Global Electric Transport (GET) Philippines.

This initiative marks a significant stride in NAC’s commitment to reduce carbon emissions and achieve Net Zero Carbon by 2050, setting a new standard in corporate environmental responsibility.

Clean and Convenient Transportation

Starting this month, NAC employees can enjoy the convenience of the Community Optimized Managed Electronic Transport (COMET), a zero-emission shuttle boasting a 30-passenger capacity and an impressive 100-kilometer range on a single charge.

According to GET Philippines Inc. senior sales executive Sheera Vizcarra, the zero-emission electric shuttle is powered by a 54-kilowatt lithium iron phosphate battery and charges up to 90 percent in 45 minutes, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.

Its top speed of 70 kilometers per hour, fully air-conditioned interior, and accessibility features—including an access ramp for persons with disabilities—make it not only eco-friendly but also inclusive and comfortable for all riders.

Revolutionizing Commutes

The shuttle service operates along designated routes through Quezon City, Mandaluyong, and Makati, facilitating easy and sustainable commuting for NAC’s workforce.

Nickel Asia Riders Club members can access the service conveniently through the GETPASS Mobile Application, making their daily commute not only carbon-neutral but also cost-effective.

A Commitment to Sustainability

NAC Assistant Vice President for Facility Management, Salvador C. Cabauatan, emphasizes that the partnership with GET Philippines underscores NAC’s dedication to reducing its carbon footprint.

This initiative aligns with their broader sustainability efforts, which include the recent acquisition of hybrid excavators designed to capture and reuse excess energy during operations—a testament to NAC’s holistic approach to environmental stewardship.

Global Collaboration in Innovation

Developed in collaboration with QEV Technologies of Spain and EvDynamics in China, the COMET represents a global effort in sustainable mobility solutions.

This partnership highlights NAC’s proactive stance in leveraging international expertise to drive local sustainability initiatives forward.

Looking Ahead

As NAC continues to expand its sustainability initiatives, including plans to standardize the use of hybrid excavators, the company remains committed to advancing environmental stewardship while meeting operational needs effectively.

With these efforts, NAC not only sets a benchmark for corporate responsibility in the Philippines but also demonstrates how strategic partnerships and technological innovation can pave the way toward a greener future.

In keeping with NAC’s commitment to sustainability, the company also acquired two hybrid excavators in 2023, which capture excess energy during operations for reuse in the future, costing ₱12.34 million each, with another nine units ordered for standardized usage in 2024 for a total of ₱125.82 million.

NAC’s introduction of the COMET electric shuttle service represents a pivotal moment in corporate environmental leadership, showcasing how forward-thinking companies can integrate sustainable solutions into everyday operations, ultimately shaping a cleaner, more sustainable future for all.
