Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC) was recognized by the local government of Palawan as among the province’s highest tax payers for 2021.
The plaque of recognition was awarded by the Provincial Government of Palawan - Provincial Treasurer Office at Provincial Capitol, Puerto Princesa City, in line with the celebration of Baragatan sa Palawan last June 21, 2022.
RTNMC, a subsidiary of Nickel Asia Corp. (NAC), has been in the rosters of largest corporate taxpayers in the Province of Palawan in real property tax payments, helping to realize different development agenda of the province.
Engr. Ronelbert A. Suguitan, RTNMC OIC-Resident Mine Manager, underscored the significant community development contributions by religiously paying taxes in the province for the past five years.
“RTNMC has paid the provincial coffers P340 Million in real property tax from 2016 until 2020. This amount does not include income and excise taxes and other local taxes paid by the company to the local and national governments,” said Suguitan
The award states that provincial government hails RTNMC for its unselfish service, and outstanding contribution to the province. The recognition is signed by no less than Palawan Governor, Jose Chavez Alvarez.
The island Province of Palawan’s mineralized lands, particularly in its southern zone, has helped keep the local economy afloat, especially during the pandemic.
Bong Dela Rosa, RTNMC Community Relations and External Admin Manager highlighted the mining company’s contributions during the onset of the pandemic in 2019.
“We have extended help to Bataraza and Province of Palawan by spending P17 Million assistance in the form of rice subsidy, medical kits, food packs, relief operation and emergency responses,” said Dela Rosa.
RTNMC plays a significant role in providing jobs and basic services to its surrounding communities and creating a venue for an active economic hub with good support infrastructure.
In 2017 and 2018, RTNMC is consistent Palawan’s No. 1 taxpayer based on the Real Property Tax (RPT) report collections. And in 2019 and 2020, the company again made it to the Top 5 list and ranked 2nd in the list of top RPT taxpayers.
Palawan is the host province of RTNMC on its mining operations in Barangay Rio Tuba in the Municipality of Bataraza since 1969.
