In recognition of its commitment to service beyond borders, Taganito Mining Corporation (TMC) once again notched the 1st place in the 2019 Gawad Kalasag Search for Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) and Humanitarian Assistance for the Best Private Organization Category.

The award was conferred on the occasion of the National Disaster Resilience Month Culmination Program of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council at the LMX Convention Center in Bancasi, Butuan City.

Gawad Kalasag stands for “Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan,” a fully institutionalized program of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

The award recognizes efforts in the field of DRRM and humanitarian assistance. The annual recognition also serves as avenue to promote awareness on best practices in the field of DRRM and humanitarian response and action.

It aims to recognize entities for their extraordinary courage, heroism and sacrifice in times of emergencies, be it natural or human-induced.

A Regional Selection Committee conducted the field validation and document verification of TMC’s entry in compliance with the set standards of the National Committee last May 21.

Among the noteworthy aspects of TMC that were cited were the company’s beyond legal compliance commitment to its emergency preparedness program, transparent reporting, well-trained Emergency Response Team (ERT), and skills enhancement program not only for its ERT members but also for all of its employees.

TMC’s ERT capabilities were exhibited during the onslaught of Typhoon Basyang in the areas of Claver, Alegria and Gigaquit were they conducted a series of rescue, relief and retrieval operations in the areas.

The team was also recognized during the National Disaster Resilience Month Celebration of the Municipality of Claver for their participation in the Oplan “Basyang” Rescue Operation.

“TMC puts high regard on the safety not just of its employees but also of its community. Aside from our Corporate Social Responsibility program, our Social Development and Management Program has allocated budget and programs for disaster preparedness and response of our barangays,” said Artemio E. Valeroso, Resident Mine Manager of TMC.
