Taratak fishermen receive gears from RTNMC

FIFTEEN fishermen received fishing equipment from Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC) as part of the company's continued support for the fishing livelihood of residents of an indigenous peoples (IP) community in Sitio
Panagnaan, barangay Taratak.

Community organizer Adz Adjimin said that fishing equipment such as fishing nets and fishing rods are part of the livelihood needs of the community under the project alignment in the Social Development and Management Program (SDMP).

“Ongoing pa rin ‘yong pangingisda nila, yong iba nag-aalaga ng bangus, hipon, sugpo. Binibenta nila sa palengke dito sa Rio Tuba, sa Bataraza. Nong ECQ, yong iba hirap din,” he said.

“Itong community na ito ay malapit talaga sa dagat kaya yon talaga ang hanapbuhay nila,” he said.

The turn over was conducted on June 27 and costP72,000, taken from the SDMP funds.

Adjimin said that this is the first turn over of equipment to the IP community in 2020 and will be beneficial to the fisherfolk, particularly now that there is a pandemic.
