TMC adopted the theme of the International Labour Organization’s World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2022, “Let’s Act Together to Build a Positive Safety and Health Culture,” which is observed every 28th of April.
Various activities were carried out aimed at promoting safety and health to all employees. Employees’ positive interest and participation were highlighted through various competitions such as First Aid Competition, Fire Extinguishment Competition, Short Safety Video Making, and On-the-Spot Poster Making Contest.
During the kick-off program last April 25, Engr. Artemio E. Valeroso, Resident Mine Manager, headed the re-launch of “My Safety Commitment”, where employees renewed their vows to keep safety as the top priority in all of the company’s operations.
On the second day of the celebration, two safety competitions were successfully conducted – First Aid and Fire Extinguishment Competitions, where both TMC and service contractors employees participated.
In the first aid competition, 10 teams from service contractors vied among themselves, while 12 participants from service contractors and TMC showcased their skills in fire suppression using a portable fire extinguisher.
MTEL Trading and Manpower Services won first place in the first aid competition, while SMDC and HPK Construction garnered the second and third place, respectively.
For the fire extinguishment, Mr. Ardel Balansag of Polaris Contruction and General Services won first place, while Sieghfred Agang of LKDC and Cleford Patan of TMC Team Acers won second and third place, respectively.
On April 27, an On-the-Spot Poster Making Contest was held, promoting workplace safety in a creative way, where 12 talented employees from TMC and service contractors participated.
The participants creatively interpreted the theme of the safety week celebration guided with the following criteria: creativity and presentation; originality; and relevance to the theme.
Reymond Pagente of Comrel Department won first place, Jhonnel Arro, a BSEM OJT and Princess Prime Carl Gede of TRGC garnered the second and third place, respectively.
On April 28, the World Day for Workplace Safety and Health was commemorated, as was the conclusion of the Safety Week.
The winners of the various contests were recognized and given prizes during the closing program.
Everyone who took part in the competitions received a certificate of participation for their contribution to the success of the events.
The event was also highlighted by the viewing of all entries in the Short Safety Video Making Contest. The contest's goal was to encourage all employees to participate in continuous learning on accident prevention. The video entry from Comrel Department took first place, with entries from Polaris and SDMC finishing in second and third, respectively.
At the end of the program, Engr. Cherry May C. Gabunada, Safety Manager quoted “Safety Week is almost over. But the commitment towards safety and health never ends. A lifetime commitment for yourself, family and for our co-workers here in TMC.”
