The fire brigade of Taganito Mining Corporation (TMC), a subsidiary of Nickel Asia Corporation (NAC), emerged as the overall champion for the industrial category of the annual Regional Fire Olympics held last March 4 at Caraga State University Grounds in Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte.
The Regional Fire Olympics is an annual event spearheaded by the Bureau of Fire Protection–Caraga Region that aims to showcase the firefighting skills of Emergency Response Teams, both for industrial and barangay categories.
TMC’s fire brigade demonstrated its expertise, flexibility, and speed in the following events: Busted Hose and Up-the-Ladder; Rescue and Transfer; and Fire Extinguishment.
With the techniques and agility shown by each member, TMC’s fire brigade outmaneuvered other participants from various mining companies such as Cagdianao Mining Corporation and Platinum Group Metals Corporation, which grabbed the 1st and 2nd Runner-up spots, respectively, under the industrial category.
Meanwhile, firefighters from Barangay Hayanggabon who were trained by TMC’s fire brigade were hailed as the overall champion for the Barangay Category, followed by the firefighters of Barangay Sta. Cruz in San Jose, PDI and Barangay Adlay in Carrascal, SDS.
The TMC’s fire brigade underwent three weeks of rigid training to prepare for the competition. The training includes firefighting techniques, completing fire rescues, and practicing good communication.
Additionally, the training focused on the members’ physical, mental, and emotional agility to keep them focused, determined, and composed during the competition.
TMC’s fire brigade will continue their intensive training in preparation for the National Fire Olympics as Caraga’s official representative for the industrial category.
TMC’s victory demonstrates the organization's readiness to handle fire-related emergencies not just within its facility but also within its neighboring communities.
