Rio Tuba holds first badminton tournament

At least 78 Badminton enthusiasts flocked to Usman Gymnasium and Town site in Rio Tuba for the first ever Badminton tournament.

The tournament was spearheaded by the Local Government Unit of Barangay Rio Tuba, Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC) and Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC).

No less than Rio Tuba Barangay Captain Nelson D. Acob attended the opening program and expressed the local government’s support to all sports initiatives emanating in the community.

"Nandito lang kaming Barangay Government, susuportahan namin kayo. Itutuloy tuloy na natin ito. Marami pa tayong palarong inihanda para sa ating 70th Founding anniversary," said Acob.

Acob also highlighted some different activities like Billiards, Motocross, motorshow and Bangkarera among others to be held for the first time this year.

The two-day tournament was primarily facilitated by Rio Tuba Bay Badminton Club (RTBBC), an independent sports organization operating in Rio Tuba headed by its interim chairperson, Victor Crisente Catain.

Flordeliza Ria Baguyo, RTBBC interim Tournament Organizer exclaimed that they are happy to partner with Barangay Rio Tuba for the first time and that they are looking forward for more tournaments in the future.

"Masaya at maswerte kami na pumayag ang LGU Rio Tuba sa pakikipa- partner sa amin upang ma-isakatuparan itong tournament. Sana masundan kaagad next year," said Baguyo.

Baguyo underscored that their goal is to inspire other Rio Tuba residents from different Sitios aside from Town site to engage in such sport.

The tournament is part of Rio Tuba’s 70th weeklong founding anniversary celebration this March.
