As part of its commitment to contribute to a brighter future for communities, Hinatuan Mining Corporation (HMC) distributed health provisions to the senior citizens of Brgy. Talavera in Tagana-an, Surigao del Norte.

The distribution was held during the 8thSenior Citizens Christmas, sponsored by HMC—an affiliate of Nickel Asia Corporation, held at Barangay Talavera Multipurpose Gym, Tagana-an, Surigao del Norte last December 7, 2018.

The seniors from five puroksof the company’s host community were filled with joy because apart from receiving the health provisions, they were able to show their talents through a dance competition.

HMC personnel along with Brgy. Talavera LGU representatives distributed the health provisions for the fourth quarter to the senior citizens.

Dr. Oliver Dennis O. Lao, HMC Admin Manager and Company Physician; Antonio B. Resuera, ComRel Manager and ComRel personnel represented the company during the activity.

Also in attendance were Barangay Talavera local government officials led by Barangay Captain Reden G. Plaza.

Plaza expressed his gratitude to HMC and NAC for their unending support not only to the seniors but to all the entire community.

“Atong pasalamatan ang NAC ug ang HMC kay ika 8 na kuman na pa party sa senior citizens. Salamat sa way sawa na pagsawa ninjo na suporta (We are thankful to NAC and HMC for the 8thsenior citizens Christmas party. We thank you for your never ending support),” said Plaza.

He also thanked the seniors especially to those who came from distant places just to participate in the Christmas event.

“Pasalamat sab ako sa mga nag attend, ilabi na sa mga taga purok 4 ug 5 na mutabok pa, ug sa mga nag tambong pud na dili mga senior citizens (I am also thankful for those that attended, specially the those coming from Purok4 and 5 that still need to travel by boat and also to those that are here that are not senior citizens),” he added.

On behalf of the beneficiaries of the health provisions, Barangay Talavera Kagawad Eulita M. Borja expressed her gratitude to HMC for organizing such event and for the donation.

“Daku ako pasalamat sa HMC sa pagtabang ug pagsuporta sa amoa senior citizens,” she said.

Brgy. Captain Plaza had also acknowledged the support given by HMC not only to the senior citizens but also to the rest of the barangay.

“Ang HMC ang nagsuporta sa mga karajawan sa atoa barangay, sa eskwela gikan sa Day Care hangtud sa High School. Nag atiman gajud sila sa kalambuan sa atoang barangay (HMC provides support to our barangay. In education, they provide assistance from Day Care to High School. They are supportive to the development of our barangay),” Plaza said.

DANCE COMPETITION

A dance competition was also held as part of the activities of the 8thsenior citizens Christmas party. All five purokswere well represented during the competition.

Winning the dance competition were the senior citizens from Purok3, followed by senior citizens from Purok1, Purok2, Purok4 and Purok5. All participating teams received prizes for their efforts, which meant that nobody went home empty-handed.

Plaza was also amazed by the dancing skills of the senior citizens.

“Punto ka hasa ang injo mga sajaw, kung ako ang mag judge puros kamo marajaw. Salamat sa inyo pagpakita sa inyo abilidad ug pag partisipar sa ini na aktibidad labi na sa president nan ato senior citizen association na si Maria Eleguir (You all have outstanding skills in dancing, if I am the judge you are all winners. I am thankful also to our citizens for showcasing your skills and participating in the event, specially to our senior citizens association president Maria Eleguir),” he said.

For his part, Dr. Lao acknowledged the efforts of the senior citizens and admired their dedication in participating in the activity.

“We salute our senior citizens for participating in this event, for we know that it is not easy considering your age. I can see that there is a high number of senior citizens here on the island, this could be due to the fresh air and food present here in the community,” he said.
