TMC spends pre-Christmas week in quake-hit Davao del Sur

After a 6.9-magnitude earthquake hit the province of Davao del Sur on December 15, 2019, Taganito Mining Corporation (TMC), a subsidiary of Nickel Asia Corporation (NAC), immediately dispatched its Emergency Response Team (ERT) to extend help to the affected families and individuals.

TMC’s ERT brought 1,100 relief goods which composed of three kilos of rice, coffee, biscuits, noodles, canned goods, and 20-littler bottled water. The 24-strong team commenced their week-long stay in Davao del sur on December 17, 2019.

The team visited the municipalities of Padada and Matanao, which were among the most badly affected by the quake.

Prior to their entry to the areas, TMC ERT coordinated with and paid a courtesy call first to Mayor Pedro Caminero of municipality of Padada and Mayor Vicente Fernandez of Matanao to identify areas of distribution.

At the municipality of Padada, 485 families from Barangay San Isidro received relief goods and 100 bottles of drinking water.

In addition, Lower Katipunan received 250 packs of relief goods and 260 bottled water, and Southern Paligui, 160 pieces of bottled water.

The municipality of Tibongbong also received 250 packs of relief goods and 140 packs for Barangay Darapuay.

TMC’s ERT also provided manpower and logistical support to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSW) in the distribution of additional 1,050 relief packs to affected communities.

“Mapasalamaton kami kay nakaabot ang TMC diri sa amoa, dako kaayog tabang tungod kay naa nay makatabang sa akong mga ginsakupan dinhi ma’am. Karon pa gajud mi nakasugat ug ingon ani diri sukad (We are grateful that Taganito Mining Corporation arrived in our area. They are a huge help to my constituents in the barangay. This is the first time we have experienced an earthquake such as this),” said Marife Bernardino, Barangay Captain of Lower Katipunan.

Conchita Ubat, Federated Purok Leader in Darapuay, Davao Del Sur said: “Magpasalamat mi sa Taganito Mining Corporation nga nakaabot mo diri sa amoa nga nakahatag ug tabang sa amoa luyo sa kusog kayo ang ulan. Salamat kayo kay nakahatag mog tubig sa amoa karun kay lisod kayo ang imnunon diri sa amoa (We would like to thank Taganito Mining Corporation for coming here to extend help despite the heavy rains. Thank you so much for giving us drinking water which is very difficult to gain access in our area.”

Vevincia Enterbincio, Barangay Kagawad of Lower Katipunan also thanked TMC for its speedy response.

“Dako kaayo among pagpasalamat nga ania karung nga naabtan kami sa sa relief goods gikan sa Nickel Asia Corporation kay dako kayo ni nga tabang para sa amoa, dako kayo ning tabang sa lumulupyo sa amoang barangay (We are very grateful for these relief goods from Nickel Asia Corporation. This is a huge help for us and all residents of our barangay),” said Enterbincio.
