THROWING its support behind the country’s peace agenda, Taganito Mining Corporation (TMC) partnered with the local government unit of Gigaquit in Surigao del Norte for its 2nd Serbisyo Caravan.
The Serbisyo Caravan was held last March 11 at Brgy. Mahanub, a remote barangay in Gigaquit with mostly Mamanwa IP (indigenous people) residents.
The program is an inter-agency initiative led by the Municipal Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (MTF-ELCAC).
The task force include LGU-Gigaquit, Philippine National Police, Philippine Army, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, Department of Interior and Local Government, and the 2nd Surigao del Norte Provincial Mobile Force Company.
The program aims to make basic government services more accessible especially in conflict-affected areas and vulnerable communities.
Among the services offered during the caravan were free medical check-up and provision of medicines, free registration of birth and marriage certificates, supplemental feeding and provision of school supplies.
In support, TMC prepared 500 food packs and 300 sets of school supplies which were distributed to Mamanwa children residing in the area.
Mayor Chandru Tumulak-Bonite of the Municipality of Gigaquit expressed his gratitude to TMC and other partner agencies that supported the project.
He went on to add that through the caravan, community members will not have to travel far and leave their communities to avail the different basic services.
“Usa ka pribilihiyo na mahimong kabahin niining serbisyo caravan diin tinood na serbisyo gidala ngadto sa ubos, nabati ninyo ug nakita. Ang TMC sa kanunay nagasuporta ug nagpabilin na partner sa munisipyo sa Gigaquit, labi na sa mga lumad (It is a privilege to be a partner in this Serbisyo Caravan wherein true service, which can be seen and heard, is brought to the grassroots. TMC has and will remain a partner of the municipality of Gigaquit and the indigenous peoples),” shared Roel Paniza, TMC Community Relations manager.
TMC is a subsidiary of Nickel Asia Corporation, the country's largest producer of lateritic nickel ore.
